Understanding Appointment Reminders

What reminders are, when they arrive, and how to control which messages you receive.

Last updated July 16, 2026

Many businesses send reminders before your appointment so it doesn't slip your mind. Reminders are set up by the business, so the exact timing and channels depend on how they've configured them.

When reminders arrive

Businesses choose how far ahead to remind you — commonly a day before, and sometimes a few hours before as well. If you have a payment due, you may also receive payment reminders around the due date.

How reminders reach you

Depending on the business's setup, reminders can come by:

  • Email
  • In-app notification in your portal
  • Text message (SMS), where the business has it enabled

Control what you receive

If you have a portal account, open your notification settings to adjust which messages you get. See Update your profile and notifications.

Every marketing email also includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Unsubscribing from promotional email doesn't stop essential messages about your actual appointments.

Common questions

  • I'm not getting reminders. Check your spam folder, confirm the business has your correct email or phone, and review your notification settings.
  • Can I turn reminders off completely? You can adjust your notification preferences, but some essential appointment messages may still be sent so you don't miss a scheduled visit.
